Makrides is versatile, hard working, speedy right-footed midfielder that can play equally good defensively and offensively.

Makrides begun his carrier in the Academies of Apollon Limassol FC where he made his A-team debut in 2001 at the age of 19. During his first six months with Apollon Limassol FC, Makrides was used predominantly from the substitutes bench and as a result he was given on a six-month loan to Ethnikos Assia FC in January 2002. In the following June he was called back to rejoin Apollon Limassol FC where he gained the A-team regular status appearing in all 24 premiership matches in the season 2002-2003. Makrides excellent performance and unlimited duels caught the eye of the coach of APOEL FC and in Janury 2004 he was transferred to the Cyprus Champions.
Since then Makrides has been a regular and irreplaceable player for APOEL FC and he is now  regarded as one of the best players of the Cyprus league.
